Jetstar will operate direct flights from Melbourne to Phuket 14 December this year.
The new route will operate every Saturday and Sunday with a
third weekly service to be introduced from March 2014.
Jetstar Group chief commercial officer, David Koczkar, said
the launch of its newest long-haul route will offer low-fare flights for the
first time between the Victorian capital, Melbourne
and Thailand ’s
top beach destination.
“We see a lot of customers booking flights to Phuket via Sydney or Singapore
so we have decided to add a nonstop flight for Victorians,” he said.
From 18 December, Melbourne-Singapore will increase from
five to six times a week while Melbourne-Honolulu will increase from three to
four times a week by 19 December. These services will be operated by Jetstar’s
existing fleet of Airbus A330 aircraft until the end of January.
To enable the new international services, Jetstar will
suspend its four weekly services between Singapore
and Osaka from 1 November and three weekly
services between Singapore
and Beijing
from 30 November.
The airline will continue to serve Osaka
from Singapore , operating up
to 14 weekly flights via Taipei and four per
week via Manila .
The Jetstar Group operates up to 3,000 flights a week to around
64 destinations and carried more than 23 million people in 2013 fiscal year.
Jetstar Group is made up of Jetstar Airways in Australia and
New Zealand (subsidiary of the Qantas Group), Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Pacific in
Vietnam, Jetstar Japan in Japan and from 2013 (subject to regulatory approval)
Jetstar Hong Kong.
