Stork Island (Dao Co) is recognised as Vietnam National Relic

Hai Dong’s provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism says Stork Island (Dao Co) will be officially recognised as a National Relic, 16 November.

According to the department, after being ranked as a National Relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hai Duong authorities will plan on how to use the new status to attract more tourists.
Hai Duong Tourism Promotion Centre linked to the Thanh Mien district People’s Committee and some travel agencies have surveyed the island and surrounding areas to identify tourist attractions. They have identified a Dong communal house, commemorative house of the late Vice President, Nguyen Luong Bang, Tranh temple, and temple to Khu Thua Du.
inside no 6However roads and other infrastructure required to promote tourism need to be developed urgently.
The centre hopes to promote one-day and two-day tours to introduce the destination to travel agencies.
Stork Island, located in Chi Lang Nam commune, Thanh Mien district, lies about 25 km  from Hai Duong city.
It gained its name from the thousands of migratory storks and herons who nest on the island.
With an area of more than 3,000 sqm, the island is a nesting ground for more than 15,000 storks and more than 5,000 herons of various kinds and such rare and precious birds as pelicans and teals residing together.
