Jetstar Pacific and Vietjet Air are adding A320s to their fleets as competition toughens in Vietnam’s crowded aviation market.
Business Times reported Jetstar Pacific took delivery of one more Airbus A320 aircraft, increasing its Airbus fleet to four. The carrier has four Airbus A320s and a single Boeing B737-400s and expects to receive another A320 at the end of this year.
Earlier, Jetstar Pacific had five Boeing and two Airbus planes, but returned four Boeing aircraft to its partner. It will return the last Boeing aircraft at the end of this year. The carrier projects to expand its fleet to 15 aircraft in the next few years.
Jetstar plans to resume services, 28 October, on the Hanoi-Danang route with a daily flight. It is also looking at destinations in Southeast Asia for a regional launch in 2013.
Its competitor, Vietjet Air, also took delivery of its fourth Airbus A320 and two more are expected to join the fleet by the end of this year. The carrier plans to increase fleet to 15 aircraft by 2015.
The fourth A320 will be used to kick off two domestic routes; Ho Chi Minh City-Vinh (daily) 15 November followed by Ho Chi Minh City–Hue (daily) 22 November.
On the regional front, it will open the Ho Chi Minh City-Bangkok route with a daily service, 14 December. It will also establish two domestic routes; Hanoi -Dalat (daily) from 7 December and Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc (twice daily) from 20 December.
