At Hanoi, On 6 March 2015: Hanoi has announced a plan to
develop ‘no-smoking’ tourism zones in an attempt to build a friendly and
healthy image for both domestic and international visitors.
In there, the plan will be reported to establish samples by
local media, such as “no-smoking restaurants and hotels”, “no-smoking offices”
and “no-smoking tourist sites”. Furthermore, this samples need be noticed at
popular public places, such as shopping malls, the Old Quarter and the Hoan
Kiem Lake.
Apart from leaflets and posters, media and radio stations
will be tapped to sprea the message on the harmful effects of smoking.
To put the movement in the context, Hanoi is also plagued by
a two-stroke motor cycle smoke that experts say is threatening to health as
smoking.
Last year, 16.5 million tourists were welcomed by the
capital city, including 3 million international tourists, up 16% from 2013.
Tobacco Harm Prevention Law of Vietnam, which took validity
from 1 May 2013, bans smoking in public area, but the regulation has not been
executed.
Ho Chi Minh City has offered that hotels become no-smoking
zones to make them more environmentally friendly for guests. In the city, more
than 390 hotels and restaurants are already smoke-free as part of a municipal
programme to create a non-smoking environments in restaurants and hotels. The
plan was beginned three years ago as is a voluntary exercise at the moment.
