Can Tho city authority says the Mekong Delta province’s Can
Tho International Airport will be served by more domestic and international
airlines once routes have been approved.
Proposed new routes will help attract investment and promote
trade exchange between the Mekong Delta and other Vietnamese and foreign
localities.
Three domestic routes will connect Can Tho with Danang, Lam
Dong and Khanh Hoa and domestic airlines are expected to pick up traffic rights
for the services once the routes are approved.
Four international routes will open up to Thailand’s
Bangkok, Cambodia’s Siem Reap and cities in Taiwan and South Korea.
However, the international routes still need to be discussed
in depth with relevant ministries and agencies who will meet with
representatives from domestic and international airlines to assign landing
slots and schedules.
Can Tho International Airport is located in Can Tho in
Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. The airport was opened 1 January 2011. It was
built at a cost of US$150 million and can handle up to 5 million passengers a
