Myanmar Ports Authority says the first ever floating hotel
will open its doors in Botahtaung harbour near Yangon
by the end of this year.
It will not be the first. That honour went to a floating
hotel owned and managed by Centara Hotels and Resorts (previously called
Central Group) that ran a 120-cabin converted cruised ship, anchored
permanently in Yangon ’s harbor.
It was towed from the harbor after about five years in the
late 1990s and eventually ended up in East Timor
and other areas where temporary accommodation was needed. Central Group sold
the ship.
Local media in Yangon said Hla Hla Pa Pa Company won the approval to invest in the floating
hotel project. It will import a 2,000 tonne engine-less vessel from Finland
that will be converted into a hotel.
The vessel was towed to Myanmar Shipyards 18 August for
extensive renovations that will give it 104 double rooms with attached
bathrooms, two dining rooms and bars.
The Yangon Port Development expanded Botahtaung port on the Yangon River
last year.
Two floating hotel are currently under construction in Mandalay , the second-largest city in Myanmar . Once completed, they will
be anchored on the Ayeyawaddy
River and cater to
foreign tourist. There is a shortage of hotels in Mandalay and rates are very high at an
average US$250 a night.
A three-deck floating hotel with an engine to allow it to
move between sites will be located near Mayangyan
Port in Mandalay . A third floating hotel may be sited
on the eastern shore of Kandawgyi Lake , Yangon .
Company sources say they intend to have the accommodation
open in time for the 27th SEA Games in December about six week from now.

Centara takes over management at Sandy Beach Resort in Da Nang
| ||
From Threeland Travel's Blog - October 2012 |
Centara Hotels & Resorts will from October 11, 2012 assume the management of Sandy Beach Non Nuoc Da Nang Vietnam by Centara, marking the company’s second resort in Vietnam. The property will undergo renovations and upgrading, a process that is expected to undertake one year, during which the resort will remain open, and upon completion will be renamed Centara Sandy Beach Resort Da Nang.
Centara will operate the resort under a management contract signed on August 27, 2012 with owner the Ben Thanh Non Nuoc Resort Corporation, a company that is under the umbrella of the Ben Thanh Group.
“We are delighted to add this beautiful resort to our portfolio, and we greatly appreciate the confidence and trust that the Ben Thanh Group has in us,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, Chief Executive Officer of Centara Hotels&Resorts.
“This is our second resort property in Vietnam, which we feel is a very exciting tourism market, and this represents a strategic step in our expansion plans,” he added.
Sandy Beach Non Nuoc Da Nang Vietnam is a four-star, 118-room resort hotel located within 17 hectares of gardens on the beachfront at Non Nuoc Beach, Da Nang.
Room types are 61 standard, superior, and deluxe; 52 bungalows; and 5 villas.
The upgrading plan will increase the number of rooms by 80, taking the total to 198 rooms.
The history of the resort dates back to 1993 when, as the only state-owned luxury hotel in Da Nang, it was used to host 40 competitors from around the world in an international surfing competition.
With the proximity of the resort to heritage sites such as Hoi An, Hue, and My Son, ease of access to the Marble Mountain, and with two championship golf courses nearby, the resort gained in popularity and in 2001 Non Nuoc Tourism Company entered into a joint venture with the Ben Thanh Group to enlarge and rebrand the property.
Resort facilities include 2 swimming pools, 2 tennis courts, a fitness center, billards, table tennis, beach volleyball and football, and a children’s playground.
The MICE sector will also be part of Centara’s marketing mix, as the resort has a large events room that can hold 250 guests for a reception, while for outdoor receptions and events the gardens and beachside can hold up to 1,000 guests.
Sandy Beach Non Nuoc Da Nang Vietnam marks Centara’s second property in Vietnam, Chen Sea Resort&Spa Phu Quoc, Centara Boutique Collection, having opened on the island of Phu Quoc in 2011.
Centara Hotels&Resorts is Thailand’s leading operator of hotels, with 38 deluxe and first-class properties covering all the major tourist destinations in the Kingdom. A further 17 resorts in the Maldives, Vietnam, Bali Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Mauritius Indian Ocean, brings the present total to 55 properties. Brands and properties within Centara ensure that specific categories such as couples, families, individuals, and meetings and incentives groups will all find a hotel or resort that is appropriate to their needs.
Centara operates 24 branches of Spa Cenvaree, one of Thailand’s most luxurious and innovative spa brands, together with its newly-launched value brand Cense by Spa Cenvaree, which provides core spa services for busy travelers. The company’s Kids’ Club is available at all the family-friendly resorts to ensure that the youngsters and teens are taken care of. Centara Hotels&Resorts also operates 2 state-of-the-art convention centers in Bangkok, and 2 in northeastern Thailand, one being located in Udon Thani, and the other in Khon Kaen.
